Visite du musée Mercedes-Benz à Stuttgart : entre histoire et modernité

Visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart: between history and modernity

Since we love cars, it was impossible not to make a detour to Stuttgart during our last visit (May 2025) to the region. Last time (September 2024), we fell under the spell of the Porsche Museum ( read the Porsche blog ), this time, we headed to the Mercedes-Benz Museum .

Mercedes Museum Entrance

The museum is located right next to VfB Stuttgart 's football stadium and the club's training ground.

Head to Daimler Mercedes-Benz Museum.

The museum is easily accessible by car or metro with a short 10-minute walk from the Neckarpark S-Bahn station.

It is always a pleasure to experience this entry into the history of the iconic car brand, to discover its environment and what it is ready to tell us.

We wonder what to expect!

A rough start to the visit

You enter a grandiose lobby , all in raw concrete, with a futuristic and refined architecture. Once you have your tickets in hand and your audio guide collected, you take an elevator that takes you to the top of the building.

Mercedes Museum Climb

The descent will then take place floor by floor, through time.

The tour begins with the fascinating story of Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler , the founders of the brand. You will discover the first motor vehicles, the failed attempts, the adjustments, and then the first successes.

First Mercedes

An immersive timeline

The museum is organized chronologically , which allows visitors to understand the evolution of the brand through the ages and dark periods such as the two world wars. Mercedes shows how the brand was involved in different fields: industrial, military, medical, public transport, etc.

Celebrities, concepts and automotive passion

Mercedes belonging to famous owners (the Popemobile, Lady Diana's car, etc.) can also be seen there, which gives a human and cultural dimension to the exhibition.

Further on, concept cars immerse us in the brand's imagination for the decades to come.

Competition in the spotlight

Our favorite part is of course the one dedicated to motorsport . It is vast and well-designed.

Mercedes racing cars

It also brings together several legendary F1s.

An interactive pit wall even allows you to simulate a pit stop: a fun activity, especially for children (and big children!).

And then… a little disappointment

Despite the richness of the content, we were a little disappointed by the general atmosphere of the museum , colder and less immersive than that of Porsche. We would have liked a more dynamic scenography, a more present sound, a little more "vroom vroom" in the ears and even the smell of oil that emanates from certain cars that we noticed at Porsche.

The Mercedes dealership: a pleasant surprise

After the visit, we recommend a visit to the Mercedes dealership right next to the museum. There you will find the models currently on sale , with the possibility of getting on board, upon request.

We may have spent almost as much time in the dealership as we did in the museum. Okay, maybe not as much, but we had a blast!

Porsche, always present

As we left the museum, we once again saw the VfB Stuttgart stadium... sponsored by Porsche ! A short walk down the road revealed the Porsche Arena in the same area.

All this to say that, even in the Mercedes neighborhood, Porsche is present .

Verdict?

If you only have time to visit one car museum in the Stuttgart area… we recommend, for now and without hesitation, the Porsche Museum . More immersive, more lively, more exciting.
